Participating in the ‘Close-to-Life Contact-Free Leading Service Activation Project’ implemented in advance by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (Chairman Seongwook Huh, hereafter referred to as NIPA) in the face of an era of contact-free transformation, MarketON’s CEO Richard Yang said, “This year, we are expanding our area of business into various fields, such as hologram kiosks used public facilities, university cafeterias, cafés, as well as security solutions, and the metaverse.”
The ‘Close-to-Life Contact-Free Leading Service Project’ is meant to develop, prove, supply, and proliferate contact-free leading services that are in close contact with the everyday lives of the citizens. The Ministry of Science and ICT and NIPA plans to foster globally oriented contact-free service companies on an industrial level and raise the competitiveness of Korea’s service and software industry on a national level. Following its start last year, it is now in its 2nd year. This year, the project will be carried out in two tracks, with last year’s contact-free service advancement as forming one axis and the development of new services forming another. The new service development track is then further categorized into designated tasks and free tasks.
Selected for the designated task of unmanned stores, MarketON participated in the ‘Untact (Contact-Free) Hologram Kiosk Development and Proliferation Task for Small Business Owners and Independent Businessmen’ and conducted the development of contact-free hologram kiosks that are capable of realizing screenless/ glasses-free holograms and various interactive services.
MarketON is a tech company that is leading the new display industry with their hologram displays. The paradigm of displays is switching from high definition to immersive displays, and the company’s main technology in holograms has the advantage of being able to express more natural immersive videos compared to AR/VR. Evaluations for such immersive videos include experiences in winning 1st place in the “AR/VR Innovation Contest” hosted by Meta-SNU in October, with their entry of a metaverse product that doesn’t require glasses or screens. The company said that, “We expect it to be applied in various fields, such as metaverse and medical displays and car seat control panels.”
MarketON’s clients are as varied as their lineup of products. First, the hologram kiosks are products used in franchises, payment companies, convenience stores, food and drink stories, and other public facilities, hologram elevator buttons are used by elevator manufacturers, elevator maintenance companies, Building Owners & Associations, hologram door locks are used by financial companies, insurance companies, and regular households, vehicular holograms are used by car manufacturers, and mobile holograms are used by many age groups, with B2C for people in their 10s to 30s being the main client base.
The reason the company is participating in the ‘Close-to-Life Contact-Free Leading Service Activation Project’, implemented by the Ministry of Science and ICT and NIPA to promote digital transformation, is because the things used in our everyday lives are steadily changing to be contact-free as the COVID-19 situation continues.
Changjun Yang, the CEO of MarketON, said that, “There has been a rise in interest for contact-free services due to COVID-19. Close-to-life contact-free technology has become absolutely necessary to put an end to concerns of viruses and return to regular life as before.” He went on to say, “We are participating in the Ministry of Science and ICT and NIPA’s project to develop and test hologram kiosks to prevent the spread of viruses in places that are close to our everyday lives, such as franchises, eateries, cafés, restaurants.”
The company’s hologram technology has many strengths. Existing holograms were only able to realize hologram technologies in dark theaters or indoors where mediums like darkness and mist/smoke are present, but MarketON’s product can replicate clear images in natural light as well. In addition, as it is a hologram that is projected outside of the machine,
it has become easier to integrate it with various other technologies. As it can be seen in bright environments, glasses or goggles are not necessary, unlike AR/VR technologies. The company emphasized that, “The price is also low, making it an internationally competitive product,” and said that, “Our technology is the first commercialized 3D hologram product.
Only China and Japan have been able to commercialize the technology so far.” Finalizing the implementation of POC overseas in places like New York, US and Turkey in December, they are emerging as one of the tech companies leading the pioneering of overseas markets through new technology, from startups that have struggled in overseas expansion.
Commercializing this technology in December of the previous year, MarketON has supplied elevator buttons to various places, like NTS Yeongdeungpo District Office, Elevator Safety Technology Institute, and Cheongju International Airport. They also had a pilot installation of hologram buttons (stand) in Hyundai Elevator and is conducting testing for vehicular hologram products with car seat manufacturers.
They are also in the middle of a demonstration project with NICE TCM for application in places like university cafeterias and franchises in the coming December. They have applied for around 10 patents in Korea and overseas in the field of holograms, and received KCC, CE, and FCC certifications.
In the future, they plan to focus on sales in Korea and overseas. They currently need to first discover overseas business partners and buyers from the US and the Middle East Region (Dubai, Turkey, etc). With their hologram elevator buttons, they are looking for business meetings with the public sector, elevator manufacturers, and maintenance companies in the US (East and West). With their hologram kiosks, they want meetings with key operators and distributor managers of franchises, payment companies, convenience stores, and food and drink stores. With their hologram door locks, they want meetings with buyers, such as financial companies, insurance companies, and regular households.
MarketON took part in this project last year as well. Their technology and market competitiveness were recognized, and they decided to participate this year as well. Changjun Yang, The CEO of MarketON, said that, “Not only did our prestige as a leading company in 3D holograms rise as we participated in this project last year, but our technology and global competitiveness has improved greatly compared to last year as well.”
Their ultimate goal is to grow as 3D digital hologram company. CEO Yang explained that, “Our current level is the closest technology to digital holograms, but the opinions of experts say that we are still far from commercializing digital holograms,” and said that, “Our products, such as hologram kiosks, elevator buttons, and door locks raise the value of spaces and gives the space a more premium feel. This is the reason for our company vision.” He then went on to say, “We are a company with great potential to lead the upcoming digital hologram era in the future,” and said that, “We are a company expected to develop even further than our current development, as we quickly apply and commercialize key technologies of the future.”
